Modern enterprise safety databases don’t just store and route cases — most now include built-in analytical tooling directly on top of the case data they hold, most notably disproportionality analysis capability generating PRR, ROR, or EBGM-style calculations, from Module 7, directly from the platform’s own accumulated case data without needing to export it to a separate specialised analytics system.
Beyond disproportionality analysis specifically, built-in reporting dashboards typically let a PV team monitor operational metrics directly — case volume trends, workflow timing (connecting to Lesson 10.6’s coverage of workflow states), and case status distributions — giving both operational management and quality oversight a real-time view into how the safety system is actually performing, not just what individual cases contain.
These built-in tools are genuinely useful, and their integration directly into the platform where cases already live removes real friction that a separate, disconnected analytics system would introduce. But they inherit every limitation Module 7 established about disproportionality analysis generally: a database’s built-in signal tool surfaces statistical candidates, it doesn’t validate them — the human medical review step Module 7’s Lesson 7.6 described is exactly as necessary whether the underlying PRR calculation came from a dedicated external tool or a built-in database feature.
And precisely because these tools calculate directly from the platform’s own case data, they’re a direct, concrete illustration of the quality-in-quality-out principle this course has built since Module 4: a database’s built-in disproportionality tool is only as trustworthy as the coding consistency and case completeness feeding it. Inconsistent MedDRA coding, missed duplicates from Lesson 10.5, or incomplete case data don’t just create narrative-level or individual-case problems — they degrade the reliability of the very signal detection tooling built directly into the system meant to catch genuine safety issues.
