A typical PV interview process, based on current hiring practice across major PV employers, runs through a recognisable sequence: an initial aptitude or basic screening round, a technical interview focused specifically on core PV concepts and scenario-based reasoning, and an HR or cultural-fit conversation. Understanding this structure in advance is itself useful preparation — the technical round is where this entire course’s content becomes directly, predictably relevant.
The technical interview draws consistently on a recognisable, specific set of topics: the AE/ADR/SAE/SUSAR vocabulary Module 1 built from day one, MedDRA coding logic and the reasoning behind term specificity from Module 4, causality assessment reasoning using WHO-UMC or Naranjo from Module 6, and — increasingly, as this field has moved rapidly since 2025-2026 — genuine AI and human-in-the-loop awareness from Module 13, which many candidates still cannot speak to with any real specificity.
The most important pattern to internalise about how these questions actually get asked is that they’re overwhelmingly scenario-based rather than pure definitional recall. An interviewer is far more likely to ask "a patient has a mild headache, but it required emergency treatment to prevent a stroke — is this an AE, an ADR, or an SAE, and why" than to simply ask "define SAE." The scenario forces genuine reasoning through the actual criteria, rather than reciting a memorised definition that may or may not reflect real understanding — which is exactly why this course built scenario-based quizzes and module assessments throughout, rather than pure recall questions, from Module 1 onward.
This is also precisely why this course’s interviewPrep content exists as its own dedicated resource alongside every module’s lesson content — it was deliberately built, module by module, to mirror the actual style and difficulty of questions this lesson describes, not simplified textbook questions. A learner who has genuinely worked through a module’s interview prep questions, reasoning through each scenario rather than memorising the provided answer, walks into a real technical interview having already rehearsed the exact cognitive pattern — reason through the criteria live — that separates a strong candidate from an adequate one.
Key Concept
The interview questions that separate a strong candidate from a merely adequate one are rarely pure recall ("what does SUSAR stand for") — they’re application questions that require reasoning through a scenario the way this course’s quizzes and assessments have been built throughout: "a patient has a mild headache but it required emergency treatment to prevent a stroke — AE, ADR, or SAE, and why?" A candidate who can reason through the criteria live, in the interview, rather than just reciting a memorised definition, is demonstrating exactly the applied fluency this course was built to produce.

1. Why does this lesson emphasise that PV interview questions are predominantly scenario-based rather than pure definitional recall?
